Keeping Inventory Low / Making Fewer
Shoes One of the biggest impacts the fashion industry has on sustainability is producing items that never get bought. These items end up in landfills or burned. This problem exists in the entire industry, from fast fashion to luxury goods. Rakoh focuses on classic designs, as opposed to chasing trends. Our goal is to make items that are relevant today and will stay relevant for years to come. By keeping our inventory low and our product batches small, we avoid overproduction, ensuring that what we make finds a home and reduces waste.
Clean Materials
Our core values prioritize processes that minimize social and environmental impact. We utilize leathers sourced from the European food industry and upcycled metals. A dedication to a superior product means that each material is sourced from the country that produces the highest quality while also being sustainable. The tanneries we work with are part of the Leather Working Group (LWG)—a not-for-profit membership audit organization that awards certification based on the level of sustainability within the production process.
Factories
We work solely with family-run factories in Italy, supporting local businesses and communities within the province. Fulfilling our responsibility to these communities, which have a rich history in shoemaking, is vital to us—not only do they contribute to the local economy, but they also create employment opportunities for those living in and around the region. Our shoemakers’ craft has been perfected over generations, and this is reflected in every handmade Rakoh product.
